Kohima: Registrars and Anganwadi workers from Chiephobozou and Botsa blocks met on October 29. They attended a training session on the Registration of Births and Deaths Act and the online Civil Registration System. The workshop took place in Chiephobozou to fix delays in documentation. They need speed. EAC Chiephobozou Viketoulie Metha demanded registrars process filings without waiting.
Department of Economics and Statistics Deputy Director David Khutso explained the legal framework for the online system. Economics and Statistics Officer Visi Yokha outlined why these records matter. Birth certificates prove identity. Death records settle insurance claims and inheritance fights. Registrars now understand procedures for adoptions, surrogacy, and assisted reproductive technology like IVF.
The session covered how to handle mistakes in records. Correction or cancellation only happens under strict rules. Yokha sorted these into three buckets: clerical errors, errors in substance, and fraudulent entries. Authorities stressed that most changes remain barred. Officials also asked for help from Village Council Chairpersons to push digital record-keeping. They need the villages on board. Theyieneinuo Belho, the District Economics and Statistics Officer for Kohima, chaired the event. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics ran the training with the Chiephobozou sub-division administration.
