Guwahati: Locals in Assam’s Cachar district detained three men on September 7 for allegedly trying to smuggle buffaloes into Bangladesh. Residents in the Gumra Bagan area of Jalalpur flagged a Bolero vehicle, registration number AS-11EC-1242, after spotting five buffaloes inside. Tension remains high in the area.

Witnesses stopped the truck near the international border. They dragged the three occupants out and reportedly beat them before Gumra Police arrived to take charge. The suspects are now in police custody.

Officers are tracking the animals' origins and their final destination. They want to know if others helped the operation. Officials said, "Police subsequently took custody of the accused and initiated an investigation." The department continues to look into the wider smuggling network.
