Guwahati: Ruhul Alam Choudhury took his own life on his wedding day. The tragedy occurred Sunday, September 27, in Belakona, Assam. Ruhul was the son of Samar Uddin Choudhury and lived in Chandpur Part III within the Borkhola constituency. The newly formed Chandpur Gaon Panchayat covers the area.
Family members had already traveled to Kalain for the nikah ceremony. They returned to the groom's house to prepare for the festivities. Ruhul went into his room alone and locked the door. Time passed. Family members grew concerned when they could not find him. They broke the door down and found him hanging from the ceiling with a rope. It was over.
They rushed him to the Bikrampur Ramkamal Primary Health Centre. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival. Dimmu Choudhury, the in-charge of the Bhanga Police Outpost, arrived at the health centre to oversee the scene. Authorities moved the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem exam.
Police have filed a case and started an investigation. They still do not know what triggered the death. The wedding preparations ended abruptly, leaving both families in shock. As the situation unfolded, officials noted, "A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death." The bride's family left the house immediately.
