Guwahati: Members of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association hit the streets Saturday, November 7. They staged demonstrations at the Kaliabor Tea Estate in Silghat and the Jagadamba Tea Estate in Kuthri. Anger boiled over. The group claims the BJP-led government broke its word on land rights, wage hikes, and Scheduled Tribe status for tea community members.

Protesters at the Silghat site held a two-hour sit-in during the early morning. Meanwhile, the Kuthri sub-branch marched outside the local factory. Members directed their frustration at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Kaliabor MLA Keshab Mahanta, and the state Labour Minister.

Activists argue the ruling party used promises of land pattas and higher pay to secure votes. Once in power, the administration ignored these commitments. The organization explicitly stated the government failed to deliver on these assurances. ATTSA officials finished their protest at the Jagadamba estate by handing a formal memorandum to the manager.
