Guwahati: Student organisations and civil society groups in Assam have called for a judicial inquiry into a suspected document forgery racket tied to Central Government recruitment. The allegations focus on the Margherita Co-District, where individuals from states including Bihar, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal reportedly used fake Assam residential documents to apply for positions in security forces like the CRPF, CISF, Assam Rifles, and ITBP.

Critics claim that Mukesh Chauhan, a resident of Margherita, facilitated the issuance of fraudulent permanent resident and caste certificates. These documents allegedly allowed applicants who studied outside of Assam to falsely claim residency to meet recruitment criteria. Local groups, including the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad and the Veer Lachit Sena, have urged Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Assam Police to investigate the scope of these irregularities.

While authorities have not yet launched a formal inquiry or confirmed the claims, officials from the Margherita Co-District administration addressed the situation. They stated, "if any anomalies are found during verification, appropriate action would be initiated against those responsible." No criminal charges have been filed at this stage as officials continue to review the allegations.
