Assam Seeks West Bengal Partnership to Protect Madhupur Satra

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called for a cross-border partnership on Saturday, September 19, to secure the historic Madhupur Satra in Cooch Behar. The site honors the legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. Sarma intends to request land from the West Bengal government to expand the site. He drew a parallel to the preservation of Batradava Than, the birthplace of the saint in Nagaon district.

Sarma laid out his strategy during an event in Guwahati. If West Bengal officials provide the land, the state plans a major development. He noted, "If they give us land, it will help us make it a big project. If not, whatever land is available, we will try to develop it there and safeguard it."

Earlier that day, the Chief Minister visited the BJP headquarters in Guwahati’s Basistha. He participated in a blood donation drive marking the first death anniversary of singer Zubeen Garg. Minister Keshab Mahanta and local party workers joined him for the event. The drive was part of a broader statewide initiative involving multiple locations. Sarma had previously confirmed his participation, stating he would donate blood at the office to commemorate the singer.
