Guwahati: Majbat Railway Station just got a 10 crore face lift. The 117-year-old hub in Assam's Udalguri district received a full overhaul through the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. It looks different now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is officially dedicating the upgraded facility to the public today as part of a national push to modernize rail infrastructure.

Built in 1909 under British rule, the station sits on the Rangiya-Murkongselek section of the Northeast Frontier Railway. It remains a key link for towns across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, plus a vital stop for pilgrims heading to Mahamuni Devalaya. The project addressed heavy congestion, poor parking, and outdated infrastructure. Workers added a new station building, redesigned the entrance, and expanded the circulating area to keep cars and people moving.

Passengers now have access to a new waiting hall, updated booking counters with better lines, and a dedicated baby care room. Crews installed high-mast lighting and new train display boards. Accessibility is a priority for the station's future. The site now features ramps, tactile tiles, and specific zones for Divyangjan passengers to ensure, as the project states, "barrier-free movement for persons with disabilities."

Majbat is one of 50 stations in Assam undergoing these changes. The upgrades aim to boost regional economic activity and tourism. With better connectivity and improved safety features, the station is ready for another century of service.
