Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that state police and the Border Security Force intercepted 21 illegal immigrants attempting to enter India. The coordinated operation prevented the group from crossing into the country, though officials did not provide specific details regarding where the interception occurred.
Sarma commended the security forces for their efficiency in identifying the individuals before they reached Indian territory. In a post on X, he stated, "In an excellent joint effort by Assam Police and BSF, 21 infiltrators were swiftly identified and prevented from entering into India."
The Chief Minister reiterated that border security remains a primary focus for his administration. Assam shares a 267.5-kilometer international boundary with Bangladesh across several districts, including Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar. These regions serve as critical focal points for the state government as it continues to execute a multi-pronged strategy to curb illegal infiltration.
