Guwahati: Nagaon District Transport Office officials pulled over a motorcycle during a routine check on Tuesday, July 14. They caught the rider at Dhupguri on the Dhing-Batadrava road. The bike was a Hero Super Splendor. It displayed the registration number AS-12G-2350, which actually belongs to a Hyundai Santro car.

The rider took off. He fled the scene before officials could detain him. His identity was confirmed through his Aadhaar card. Enforcement Inspector Bhaba Kakati identified him as Abul Kalam, who lives in Bilatiya near Dhing. The bike had been running on fake plates for some time.

Investigators checked the records. They found the motorcycle's true registration number is AS-13B-0997. The team seized the bike and handed it over to Batadrava Police. Transport officials now fear a wider criminal operation. They suspect more vehicles in the district are using forged tags. An official statement noted, "An investigation is underway to identify such vehicles and those involved in the alleged fraud."
