The flooding hits Narowa Satra and Salaguri Satra hard. People living there report widespread damage to their houses. Visitors trying to reach the historic Batadrava Than, a primary religious site, find it nearly impossible to get around. The Batadrava Than Management Committee officially voiced its concern over the repeat incidents.
Residents claim developers and fish farmers built barriers across vital water paths. The Assam government poured crores of rupees into the region to boost religious tourism. Locals argue this spending ignored the need for a modern, scientific drainage system. They say current infrastructure plans fall short.
The Nagaon district administration launched an eviction drive against encroachers six months ago. The efforts failed to stick. "Weak enforcement following the drive has allowed encroachments and obstructions to re-emerge in some locations," residents stated. Neighbors want authorities to clear these blockages and finalize a permanent drainage plan to stop the floods for good.
