Guwahati: Assam Guardian Minister for Dima Hasao, Krishnendu Paul, inspected restoration progress on the Haflong-Lumding National Highway on June 12. The minister visited a 3.4-km damaged section near Gerem, which has suffered from significant travel disruptions since a devastating natural disaster occurred in 2022. Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaurya Sharma, Paul reviewed the current state of repairs and the development of a proposed alternative route.

Officials confirmed that plans for a 1.3-km section of the new road are ready, with the tender process already underway. The submission and opening of these tenders are scheduled for June 18. To ensure the project moves forward, Paul directed relevant departments to expedite all administrative procedures and increase the pace of construction. He stated that there is a critical need for a permanent solution in the public interest.

The minister has called for a follow-up review meeting in Silchar on June 17 to address remaining challenges. Representatives from the Dima Hasao district administration, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, and the National Highways Authority of India are expected to participate. This highway remains a vital link for the Dima Hasao district and the Barak Valley, making its full restoration a top priority for the state government.
