Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya officially started the 47th Inter-District Athletics Championship on July 24. He inaugurated the meet at the District Sports Stadium Complex in Sariahtoli, Nalbari. The event gathers 1,150 junior and senior athletes from across the state. They will battle for top spots over the next three days.
State Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah attended the opening ceremony. He noted that state-led programs like Khel Maharan are building a stronger athletic culture under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Baruah said, "The championship has brought together nearly 1,150 junior and senior athletes from across the state, who will compete over the next three days." He hopes the event gives young talent a clear path to higher competition.
Several officials watched the opening proceedings. These included Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimary, who also serves as the Guardian Minister for Nalbari. Representatives from the Assam Athletics Association, the Nalbari District Sports Association, and local district administrators also stood on the sidelines to support the athletes.
