Assam Flood Relief Effort Keeps Legacy of Cultural Icons Alive

Guwahati: Garima Garg visited Betbari near Sivasagar town on Sunday, August 9, to lead a relief distribution program. She sees the statewide outpouring of aid for flood victims as a direct reflection of the values held by musicians Zubeen Garg, Bhupen Hazarika, and Jayanta Hazarika. Their compassion defines this response. The local community is proving that these icons stay alive through the actions of the people.

Garg highlighted the collective effort across Assam. Donations range from small sums of Rs 10 and Rs 20 to larger contributions of Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh. She noted that the public sentiment reflects the core message of the song Manuhe Manuhor Babe. “Zubeen is still there, only the route has changed. We are still inspired by his actions and his love for people. Because of this energy, we are here to help the people,” Garg said.

Multiple groups organized the event. Collaborators included Sur Bahini, the Film Society of Assam, Kalaguru Artist Foundation, and the Guwahati Cine Musicians Association. The Zubeen Fan Club and the All Hospital and Healthcare Providers AHPI NE1 Chapter also assisted. This initiative serves as a reminder that the legacy of these artists survives through the humanity shown by the public.
