Guwahati: Assam's flood death toll hit 75 on Tuesday. Seven more people died in Sivasagar over the last 24 hours. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority confirmed the grim count.
Seven districts remain under water. These include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Kamrup Metropolitan. Floods have displaced thousands. Official data puts the number of affected people at 3,32,639. Water covers 622 villages across 21 revenue circles. No urban flooding exists in the state right now.
Farmers face ruin. Floodwaters submerged 45,341.98 hectares of cropland. District teams continue rescue and relief work. They are scrambling to restore essential services to hit communities.
New trouble arrives Thursday. The India Meteorological Department expects heavy rain and thunderstorms from July 30 to August 1. Forecasters issued an Orange Alert for Tinsukia. Nagaland’s Mon, Mokokchung, and Wokha districts face similar threats. Rain will likely hit Dhemaji and Lakhimpur hard. Nearby areas in Nagaland could also push water into Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
Rainfall could reach 11 cm per day in East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri, and Lower Dibang Valley. Papumpare might see up to 20 cm daily. The ASDMA issued a stern warning. They told residents to stay alert for flash floods and landslides. The agency stated, "The disaster management authority has appealed to people in the affected districts to stay vigilant and follow all necessary safety measures."
Travelers should stay off the roads. Residents should monitor the official website for updates. Officials urge everyone to heed safety instructions as the monsoon intensity holds firm.
