Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma honored Rupamoni Garh on July 26 for reaching the top of Mount Everest. She is the first climber from Assam to ever finish the brutal trek. The state celebrated this milestone as a massive win for local adventure sports.
Sarma held a special ceremony to mark the event. He gave the mountaineer a phulam gamosa, a bouquet, and a traditional xorai. The Chief Minister also handed her a cheque for Rs 10 lakh. It was a big day. During the event, Sarma confirmed she would get a job with the Assam Police.
The government wants to reward her drive and hard work. The Chief Minister expects her success to push local youth to chase their own goals. He praised her path to the top of the world, stating, "Garh's determination, resilience and unwavering spirit have brought immense pride to the state and would inspire countless young aspirants to dream big and overcome challenges."
Garh conquered one of the hardest climbs on the planet. Her achievement now stands as a landmark moment for the region. Leaders across the state are hailing her as a hero.
