Assam CM and Defence Minister mourn five IAF personnel killed in Jorhat crash

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences on Saturday following the death of five Indian Air Force personnel in an AN-32 aircraft crash at the Jorhat Air Force Station. The Chief Minister described the incident as a deeply painful loss and offered his solidarity to the families of the victims.

Sarma identified the deceased as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam. He stated that he was pained by the loss of these "brave Air Warriors" who died while serving the nation. The state government is currently in contact with relevant authorities and stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to those affected.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also offered tributes to the fallen personnel. He expressed deep anguish over the accident, noting that the soldiers made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Singh emphasized that their courage and service would be remembered with gratitude and confirmed that the nation stands with the bereaved families during this difficult time.

The AN-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft that serves as a vital asset for the Indian Air Force. It is used frequently for logistics, cargo movement, and operational support across diverse environments, including high-altitude and remote regions of India.
