Guwahati: Local authorities in Assam’s Margherita sub-district sealed a roadside eatery known as Gogoi Dhaba on Saturday, June 13, following allegations of illegal liquor sales. The operation took place in Bargolai under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Priti Rekha Gogoi and followed specific directives issued by the Tinsukia District Commissioner.

This enforcement action stems from recent discussions held by the District Road Safety Committee. The committee prioritized cracking down on unauthorized liquor outlets operating near public roadways to improve safety and ensure compliance with regional excise regulations. According to officials, "The action was taken in line with decisions adopted during a District Road Safety Committee meeting chaired by the Tinsukia District Commissioner."

The establishment is currently navigating the necessary judicial procedures for formal sealing as mandated by the district administration. Officials confirmed that this closure is part of a broader, ongoing campaign by the Excise Department to eliminate illegal trade practices in the region. Authorities have issued a stern warning that regular inspections will continue and that any business found operating without the required permissions will face similar consequences.
