Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh launched its Anti-Malaria Month 2026 on Monday in Pasighat, kicking off a district-wide initiative to combat vector-borne diseases. The month-long campaign, held under the theme Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must, aims to strengthen prevention efforts throughout East Siang through June 30.
Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang served as the chief guest at the launch event held at the Pasighat Municipal Council conference hall. Alongside municipal leadership, including Chief Councillor Tagom Padung, officials emphasized that local participation is critical to eliminating malaria. The event highlighted the necessity of maintaining clean environments to disrupt mosquito breeding, alongside the importance of early diagnosis and prompt medical treatment.
Representatives from the District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme shared data regarding the current malaria situation in the region and detailed existing control strategies. The presentation called for sustained community vigilance to keep the district safe from disease outbreaks.
The event drew a wide audience including District Medical Officer Dr. Y. Y. Pertin, municipal staff, local healthcare workers, and students from Government UPS School. Organizers stated that the strong turnout reflects a unified commitment from the government, health department, and the public to reach the goal of a malaria-free East Siang.
