Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh marked Kargil Vijay Diwas with athletic challenges and solemn tributes. Over 200 participants gathered at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar on Saturday for a rain run. School students, college students, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel tackled 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km race categories. Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung and Sports Minister Kento Jini flagged off the races. The event honored soldiers killed in the 1999 conflict.
Natung addressed the crowd after the run. He noted that the day commemorates India's victory and honors the courage of the armed forces. Athlete Joti Mane emphasized the importance of the event. Mane stated, "Such events help reinforce patriotism and recognise the contribution of the country's soldiers." The day marks the date Indian forces recaptured strategic positions after 1999 Pakistani intrusions.
The Spearhead Division of Spear Corps held separate events across the Subansiri Valley on Sunday, July 26. These included wreath-laying ceremonies and remembrance programs. Serving Army personnel, veterans, students, and local residents attended. The military hosted sports activities and screened the film LOC Kargil to educate the younger generation on the legacy of Operation Vijay.
Army personnel reaffirmed their commitment to national service during the commemoration. The Spearhead Division stated that the sacrifices of the Kargil martyrs inspire both citizens and soldiers. They vowed to remain steadfast in guarding the nation's frontiers. The events successfully reinforced values of duty and national pride across the region.
