Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein wants more work done to save the state's indigenous cultures. He issued this call on August 9 to mark the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. The message centers on protecting tribal knowledge, values, and practices against the backdrop of quick social and economic changes. It is a big mission. The state hosts more than 26 major tribes and over 100 sub-tribes.
These groups maintain unique languages, customs, and community governance systems. Mein insists that the state's tribal communities define its core identity and heritage. He highlighted the importance of their relationship with nature during his address. "On International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate the diverse indigenous communities whose traditions, languages, knowledge systems and relationship with nature enrich our shared heritage," Mein said.
The government is currently documenting oral traditions and local languages. Officials are also busy digitizing historical manuscripts to keep this history alive. Mein urged citizens to stay connected to their roots and respect the diversity across the region. He wants these cultural practices to stay vibrant for those who come next. It is about survival.
