Ardent Basaiawmoit Accuses CM Sangma of Political Maneuvering in Nongkrem

Shillong: VPP chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit says Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is using local food as a political weapon. Sangma is visiting the Smit area with newfound frequency. He has a sudden appetite for Jadoh, the traditional meat and rice dish central to Khasi identity. Basaiawmoit claims these trips aim to undermine his influence in the Nongkrem constituency rather than satisfy a craving for lunch.

The accusation came as Basaiawmoit distributed MLA schemes for 2025-26 at his Nongkrem home on Monday. He addressed the situation with a smile. "This is only an attempt to weaken me politically," he said. The VPP leader views the development as a clear power play. He warned his supporters to look past the political posturing and focus on the party platform.

Basaiawmoit remains focused on the long game. He predicted the VPP will form the government in 2028. He plans to run the state Secretariat based on clean governance and protections for indigenous landowners. He urged his base to ignore fake social media accounts targeting the party. Voters should prioritize the community over money, he argued, and worry more about the misinformation spread among the youth.
