Guwahati: The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad, or AJYP, is demanding swift action following attacks on Assam-registered vehicles and tourists in Meghalaya. Central committee general secretary Udayan Kumar Gogoi issued a press statement on Friday accusing people linked to the Khasi Students’ Union of orchestrating the violence. Three local leaders in Meghalaya face detention over the assaults, yet the AJYP remains frustrated by the lack of an official apology from the Meghalaya government.

The organization insists that authorities immediately arrest every person involved in the vehicle damage and physical assaults. They want full compensation for all repairs. The group warned that they will launch a complete blockade against Meghalaya if their demands are ignored. It is a tense situation. They are now questioning the fairness of existing road-use agreements between the two states.

Gogoi pointed out that Assam drivers pay road taxes, tolls, and parking fees. He argued that these financial requirements should apply equally to Meghalaya vehicles entering Assam. While the AJYP maintains that the people of Assam seek peace rather than confrontation, they insist on reciprocity. “Assam and Meghalaya must maintain equality and reciprocity in matters of taxation, road use and security,” Gogoi said. The group is calling for high-level dialogue to reach a permanent solution to protect tourists and trade between the two states.
