Adivasi Group Rallies in Dibrugarh for Tea Worker Rights

Guwahati: Members of the Adivasi Yuva-Chatra Santha, Assam (AICSA) marched through Dibrugarh on Wednesday, September 2. The protesters demanded immediate relief for workers trapped in the state's small tea gardens. The rally kicked off at the Dibrugarh Chowkidingee Sahitya Sabha Bhawan. It ended at the office of the Dibrugarh district commissioner.

Demonstrators pushed for a list of basic rights. They want assured minimum wages and mandatory provident fund contributions. The group also demanded regular bonus payments, safe transit for staff, and better human rights protections. AICSA leaders argued that the government must stop ignoring these long-standing issues.

Central committee president Nipen Munda and general secretary Rajesh Kerketta led the charge. They called on the government to act now. "The government and concerned authorities should take greater responsibility for ensuring their rightful entitlements and benefits," the group stated. The organization maintains that fair wages and social security are the only way to protect the dignity of tea garden labor.
