Agartala: Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha led a high-level review meeting in Agartala this week to assess the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project. The session marked the start of the 6th Implementation Support Mission and Mid-Term Review for the World Bank-funded initiative.

World Bank officials Priti Kumar and other specialists evaluated project performance, describing the current progress as moderately satisfactory. They noted that the project has shown significant improvements over the last six months. A major focus of the review was the livelihoods sector, where nearly 60 percent of local community institutions have now received working capital support. These initiatives aim to boost income for tribal communities through better collective marketing and the strengthening of producer groups.

To maintain this momentum, the World Bank recommended that the state strategically deploy staff based on local workloads. The mission also emphasized the importance of robust monitoring and regular field engagement to meet future objectives. While acknowledging delays caused by adverse weather and the Model Code of Conduct, Chief Secretary Sinha expressed confidence in the project moving forward. He pledged that the state government will address any outstanding logistical or manpower needs to ensure the project meets its goals for rural service delivery.

The World Bank team plans to conduct further field visits across various districts and blocks. This review process will help the state identify lingering challenges and refine its approach to supporting tribal development throughout Tripura.
