Agartala: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder broke ground on a pond redevelopment project Friday. The site sits behind New Star Club in Durga Chowmuhani, Ward No. 18. The neglected waterbody will finally get a face-lift. Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta and Central Zone Chairperson Ratna Dutta joined local residents for the foundation stone ceremony.

This work is part of a wider effort to save abandoned ponds across the city. The BJP-led government is hunting for these forgotten sites to bring them back to life. Mayor Majumder wants these areas to provide real value to the neighborhood. He sees this as a win for both the environment and the public.

"The goal is not only to conserve these ponds but also to make them usable for citizens in ways that serve social and welfare purposes," Majumder said. The project aims to improve local aesthetics while creating functional space for community activities. Residents expect the cleaned pond to provide better surroundings for their daily needs.
