Kohima: Wokha veterinary officials hit the road this week to sell farmers on federal insurance. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services held two sessions in Merapani and Bhandari Town on June 23. They want locals to shield their animals from sudden financial loss.
Dr. Gwazenlo Tep from the Wokha Veterinary Hospital ran the workshops. He broke down the details of the National Livestock Mission for the 2025-2026 cycle. He told the crowd that the "schemes encouraged farmers to ensure their animals and adopt better livestock management practices and reduce the economic burden caused by unexpected losses."
Tep explained the paperwork side of things. He walked farmers through the process of getting policies, gathering the right documents, and submitting GPS-tagged photos of their livestock to qualify for compensation.
Dr. Kikali G Sumi led the event. The department handed out free veterinary kits to everyone who showed up. The push aims to keep local herds safe while helping owners weather the cost of surprise deaths.
