Kohima: Wokha officials hit the streets on June 26 to push for a drug-free future. The Department of Social Welfare and District Administration teamed up for a bike rally that roared from PWD Junction to Chukitong. They turned the focus toward local schools, churches, and villages to fight addiction.
Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao demanded better coordination from law enforcement. He told the crowd that schools must lead the push for education. Community leaders need to treat addicts with kindness instead of casting them aside. During the event, Tsanglao stated, "This war is against drugs, not against people."
Recovery stories took center stage at Wokha Town Hall. Konathung Ezung described his descent into addiction and his eventual path to sobriety through family support. He urged others to keep fighting, noting that lives can be rebuilt with enough determination.
Experts also weighed in on the risks. L Zachamo Ovung warned that drug challenges are changing and require early intervention. Abigail Lotha from the WDLSA reviewed the HIV and AIDS Act of 2017. She reminded parents that active involvement in their children's lives acts as a barrier against substance abuse. The program closed with a student play and a formal anti-drug pledge.
