Kohima: Nagaland officials marked the 20th National Statistics Day on June 29 at their Dimapur office. They gathered to honor the legacy of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. He built India's modern statistical system. The event centered on unlocking the potential of administrative data.
Neidilhou Keditsu, the director of Economics and Statistics, led the meeting. He detailed a four-stage plan from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation to harmonize state datasets. The goal is to make data machine-readable and ready for modern software. "The initiative aims to make data machine readable, interoperable and AI ready," Keditsu stated.
The department is already building metadata based on national standards. Staff must keep pushing for reliable and timely numbers. Hard work matters here.
The District Economics and Statistics Office in Wokha took home the award for Best Performing District Office. Judges cited their work during a special registration drive for births and deaths held earlier this year. The event ended with a pledge to improve data systems for the state's future.
