Wild Elephant Herd Disrupts Life in West Karbi Anglong Villages

Guwahati: A herd of wild elephants is tearing through the Kheroni area of Assam. The animals have spent several days wandering across farmlands and residential zones in the West Karbi Anglong district. Farmers are bracing for the worst. They fear the giants will trample their standing crops and wreck property.

The Southern Forest Range is the elephants' current stomping ground. People living under the Kheroni Police Station jurisdiction say the herd ruins everything. Daily life has stalled. Movement is dangerous in the early morning and late evening hours. Human-elephant conflict is a routine nightmare for those near the forest edge.

Residents want action. They are begging forest authorities to push the animals back into the wild and bolster defenses for local farms. One villager stated, "Residents have appealed to the forest authorities to take prompt measures to guide the elephants back towards forested areas and strengthen preventive measures to protect crops and ensure the safety of people." They also demand constant monitoring to avoid a tragedy.
