Vincent Pala Denies Rumors of Kharlukhi Joining Congress

Shillong: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Vincent H. Pala killed rumors on Friday that former NPP state president Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi is joining his party. Talk of a move surfaced after Kharlukhi resigned from the National People’s Party on August 24. NPP state president Prestone Tynsong accepted the departure.

Pala is currently busy campaigning for the Shillong bye-election. He is hitting the ground in Sonapahar in West Khasi Hills. The party boss dismissed the chatter as baseless. "There is no truth in such a report. I have not met Kharlukhi," Pala told The Shillong Times.

Kharlukhi has stayed tight-lipped about his future. He spoke to reporters on Thursday and kept his options open. The former Rajya Sabha member claimed his exit was simply a matter of timing after years of service. He suggested he wanted to let other party workers take the lead. Kharlukhi has not confirmed if he will remain in politics at all.
