Imphal: A 24-hour total shutdown commenced across Naga-inhabited areas in Manipur on Thursday to protest the killing of six civilians. The victims were abducted on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei village in the Kangpokpi district, and their bodies were recently recovered.

The United Naga Council initiated the protest at 6 a.m. on June 11 to demand accountability for the violence. In an official statement, the council expressed profound grief and condemned the incident as a, "grave violation of human rights and human dignity." The organization maintains that the tragedy has severely damaged public trust in the government ability to protect innocent residents.

The council declared that the families of the victims will not accept the remains until both the state and central governments address their primary demands. These include the arrest of those responsible for the abductions and the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations agreement currently in place with Kuki militant groups.

Protesters are also calling for the Kuki National Front-President group to be officially labeled a terrorist organization. Additionally, the council is demanding the immediate removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen from her position. The shutdown is scheduled to conclude at 6 a.m. on June 12, with organizers urging the public to remain peaceful while standing in solidarity with the families affected by the incident.
