Imphal: Thousands of Nagas swarmed the hill districts of Manipur on Monday, marking the 11th anniversary of the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement. They want results. Protesters in Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, and Chandel demanded that the Government of India finally implement the 2015 accord in letter and spirit to end three decades of negotiations.
The mood was firm. Tribal bodies, students, women’s groups, and church leaders converged at public meetings to declare their continued support for the deal signed with the NSCN-IM. In Ukhrul, participants marched to the Mini Secretariat to submit a formal declaration to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister via the Deputy Commissioner. Similar declarations were filed in Tamenglong.
United Naga Council president Ng. Lorho accused New Delhi of backtracking by refusing to recognize the Naga national flag and constitution. He said the NSCN signed the agreement as an independent entity, not as a subordinate. Tension is rising. Addressing the crowd, Lorho warned that there comes a point “when patience wears thin, endurance reaches its limit, silence is no longer an option, and when promises are repeatedly broken, people rise up and cry, ‘Enough is enough.'”
In Senapati, NPO president Kuba Peter labeled the agreement a historic milestone. He cautioned that any departure from the original terms would shatter hard-won hopes. Protesters in Ukhrul also railed against militarization, declaring that combing operations offer no solution to the conflict. They demanded an immediate end to ongoing bloodshed.
The declarations adopted across the districts describe the 11-year wait as a direct affront to the historical and political rights of the Naga people. Organizers urged the Centre to show genuine political will. As Lorho told the gathered crowd, “The time to act is now—if not now, perhaps never.”
