Agartala: Tripura University secured the 47th spot among central universities in the 2026 Indian Institutional Ranking Framework, known as IIRF. This latest result reflects a broader trend of declining scores for the institution over the last four years.
Data shows the university earned a score of 888.66 in 2026. This performance follows a score of 901.00 in 2025, which saw the university ranked 44th. In 2024, the institution recorded a score of 897.86 and held the 47th position, while 2023 saw its strongest recent showing with a score of 929.99 and a 28th-place ranking.
Despite these fluctuations, Tripura University remains the highest-ranked central university in the state. The IIRF evaluates institutions based on governance, industry integration, research output, placement performance, and teaching resources.
Educational experts suggest that the downward trend in scoring signals a need for the university to bolster its research output and academic environment. To remain competitive against top institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University, the University of Delhi, and Jamia Millia Islamia, observers believe the school must prioritize faculty development, increased research funding, and improved student outcomes.
