Agartala: Chandamita Roy took top honors at the Miss Teen Diva 2026 pageant in Jaipur. She walked away with the Best National Costume award. The win puts Tripura on the national fashion map.

Yana Ngoba Chakpu designed the winning piece. She founded the Northeast India Fashion Week and the Artisans Movement. The costume features handwoven textiles from the Debbarman community. Weavers used a traditional loin loom to create the fabric. It represents a craft passed down through generations.

The outfit includes dramatic wings modeled after the Nageswar, which is the official state flower of Tripura. These wings symbolize natural beauty and resilience. The design also incorporates silver tribal ornaments, vibrant red beads, and Indian coin jewelry. It presents a modern take on tribal history.

State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury backed the project. The move signals a push from the government to promote regional culture. Roy spoke on the impact of the win. “Representing Tripura through this costume was an honour. This recognition is a proud moment for our artisans and weavers, whose traditions continue to inspire.”

Designer Yana Ngoba Chakpu also reflected on the effort. She noted the creation tells the story of the indigenous soul of India. The win serves as a milestone for the Northeast. It marks the region as a hub for fashion and cultural preservation.
