Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced a major boost in digital financial adoption among the state's street vendors under the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi scheme. During a commemorative event at the Muktadhara Auditorium, attended by Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister confirmed that 5,982 vendors are now onboarded for digital payments, with over 3,150 using these platforms regularly. These efforts have driven total transaction values to approximately Rs 202.34 crore.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020 to support vendors during the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheme provides financial assistance to improve self-reliance. In Tripura, authorities have identified 8,666 street vendors and issued them official vending certificates. The state has processed 11,727 loan applications, resulting in 9,578 sanctions and 9,301 actual disbursements. To date, Rs 15.28 crore has been distributed, with nearly 5,000 vendors successfully repaying their loans.

Dr. Saha emphasized that street vendors are vital to urban economies and the scheme remains a key tool for enhancing their economic stability. He described the program as a testament to the government's focus on inclusive development and the financial empowerment of all citizens.
