Agartala: Tripura’s Cabinet gave the green light to a 3 per cent boost in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief on October 6. This move pushes the total rate for government staff and pensioners to 44 per cent. Chief Minister Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy confirmed the change at a press conference held at the Civil Secretariat. The new rates kick in on October 1, 2026.
This hike hits the state budget hard. It will cost the exchequer roughly Rs 300 crore every year. Saha insisted the government stays committed to staff welfare despite the heavy financial pressure. The Cabinet also signed off on a hike for House Rent Allowance. Employees will now get 10 per cent of their basic pay for rent, capped at Rs 10,000 each month. This change also starts on October 1.
Saha called workers a vital pillar of the administration. He noted that they deliver public services and run government policy. The Chief Minister pointed to the 2018 rollout of the 7th Pay Commission, which bumped basic pay by 14.22 per cent. Even with these raises, a wide gap remains between state workers and Central government staff. Central employees draw roughly 60 per cent DA. Saha admitted the disparity. "We are concerned about this gap and are working gradually to reduce it," he stated.
State officials are watching the 8th Pay Commission process at the national level. Saha also touted the state’s 2018 recruitment policy. That rule set aside 33 per cent of direct government jobs for women.
