Tripura Minister Says Agriculture Is The State's Economic Backbone

Agartala: Agriculture keeps the economy moving. If farmers stop producing rice and vegetables, the entire system collapses. Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath delivered this warning on July 30 while starting three new projects in Gomati district.

Nath called farmers the nation's backbone. He stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi labels them Annadata for their tireless work. The minister stated, "If farmers stop producing rice, vegetables and other agricultural products, development will not be possible and everything will collapse."

The government aims to cut out middlemen to help farmers directly. Officials are currently pushing subsidies and fertiliser support to keep production high. According to the state, human resources drive the local economy, and agriculture remains a vital piece of that puzzle.

Tripura now operates 554 agricultural markets. This total includes 84 primary wholesale centers, 21 produce markets, and 470 rural markets. Data shows a massive jump in funding for these sites. Between 2018 and 2026, the government put Rs 461.83 crore into 204 development projects. That dwarfs the Rs 20.27 crore spent on only 71 markets during the 2013 to 2017 period.
