Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission has launched a probe into two separate deaths following allegations of medical negligence at government hospitals. Chairperson Arindam Lodh issued notices to the Directorate of Health Services requesting detailed reports on the incidents.

The first case involves a patient at GB Pant Hospital who died on May 31, 2026. Reports indicate the patient was found in a hospital toilet after being left unattended by medical staff for an extended period. Family members discovered the patient in critical condition, but the individual had already passed away by the time they were recovered. The Commission labeled the incident a blatant violation of human rights.

The second inquiry concerns the death of a pregnant woman at IGM Hospital on May 30, 2026. Families allege that her death was caused by the absence of medical officers on duty. The Commission cited reports suggesting this incident highlights severe deficiencies in the hospital's medical services.

The Commission has sent relevant press clippings to the Director of Health Services for the Tripura government. Officials must submit comprehensive reports on both deaths within 15 days. The proceedings are scheduled to resume on July 3.
