Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress and the Youth Congress have launched a joint campaign to highlight growing crises in the state's education and employment sectors. During a press conference at Congress Bhavan, party spokesperson Partha Acharya cited findings from the 2026 NITI Aayog report to characterize the state's educational landscape as alarming. He pointed to rising dropout rates, declining academic quality, and a significant lack of teacher staffing across schools.
Acharya criticized the government's approach to the Vidyajyoti scheme, alleging that officials have failed to meet original promises made to families. Citing the Right to Education Act of 2009, he called for an immediate end to annual fees and extra charges in government schools. Furthermore, he expressed deep concern regarding recent technical glitches and question paper leaks impacting major national exams like NEET, UPSC, and CUET, demanding that authorities hold those responsible accountable.
Youth Congress President Neel Kamal Saha turned his attention to the state's industrial and employment challenges. He noted that Tripura contributes less than 0.1 percent to national apprenticeship programs, which he attributed to a severe lack of industrial growth. Because the private sector provides so few opportunities, young people are forced to rely on government positions that remain largely unavailable.
Saha highlighted that nearly 15,000 teacher positions have opened up over the last eight years due to retirements, yet these roles remain vacant or are being eliminated entirely. He also noted that hundreds of candidates who passed the Teachers Eligibility Test, including 368 from the 2024 TET-1 and 1,488 from TET-2, are still waiting for official appointments.
