Guwahati: Police arrested three men for the abduction and sexual assault of a Class IX student in Moran, Assam. The suspects, 19-year-old Samiran Koch, his 24-year-old brother Jaydeep Koch, and 20-year-old Rongjyoti Changmai, now sit in judicial custody. Officers nabbed the trio at a rented house in Kushal Nagar. They also seized three mobile phones, a motorcycle, and various other materials from the property.

The ordeal started Tuesday at 7:30 pm. The girl stepped outside her home before the attackers grabbed her. They dragged the teen to a pond one kilometer away. According to the family complaint, the men injected the girl with an unknown substance until she blacked out. They then sexually assaulted the unconscious victim. She eventually woke up and fled to a nearby house for help. She told her family everything. The family filed an FIR at the Moran Police Station on Wednesday morning.

The Moran regional unit of the All Assam Students’ Union expressed deep alarm regarding the crime. They blamed local drug use for the surge in youth violence. "The spread of intoxicants and drugs in the area was contributing to unruly behaviour among youths," the organization stated. Locals also criticized the rented building, noting the site lacked CCTV and basic security controls. Police are currently keeping quiet on the finer details of their ongoing investigation.
