Kohima: The Thchutho Cooperative FPO Ltd. opened a food processing plant in Rachan Colony, Wokha Town, on Tuesday. The facility processes bananas into chips and beverages, alongside a dedicated lemon processing line. It launched its new banana chips product line during the ceremony.
The project received funding through the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development under the TRIBES Sustainability Plan 2026. NABARD Dimapur General Manager P. Bulte attended as the special guest. He noted that agricultural goods need processing to gain proper market value. He stated that food processing is “the need of the hour.”
Bulte pointed out that India loses 20 to 30 percent of its food supply to post-harvest waste. This plant aims to shrink that loss by turning perishable crops into stable, marketable goods. He expects the site to grow, creating jobs for local youth while keeping product quality high. He warned the cooperative that poor quality control could wreck their hard-earned reputation.
Project Facilitating Agency head Lanchibemo Tsopoe credited NABARD for supporting the cooperative since 2016. ICAR-KVK Wokha Technical Officer Dr. Thungchano S. Ezung added that the facility will serve farmers across the entire district. Project Manager Amos Odyuo chaired the event, which featured an invocation by Pastor Zuben N. Ngullie and a closing address by Chairman Yalumo Ngullie. Officials from the Cooperation and Horticulture departments also attended the launch.
