State and CCYO Resolve Dispute Over Seized Bird and Legal Case

Kohima: Nagaland officials and the Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) settled their dispute on Wednesday. The agreement came at 2 PM inside the Japfu Hotel in Kohima. Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio mediated the talks between the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the youth group. PCCF and HoFF Vedpal Singh and CCYO President Dode Nakro signed a joint declaration to keep the matter out of court.

The parties addressed three specific demands. They previously returned the seized Great Barbet to the Porba village community forest on September 30, 2026. Efforts to drop the case against Vezhoto Hesuh hit a snag on October 1, 2026. The department requires cooperation from both the court and Hesuh to finalize that dismissal. Hesuh stated he lacked legal awareness and intended only a rescue mission. He now wants a settlement outside of court.

Police are still investigating allegations that officials demanded a one lakh rupee bribe. This inquiry seeks to identify the specific staff members involved. Officials and the CCYO thanked Minister CL John, MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu, and Principal Secretary Y Kikheto Sema for their help. They credited the leadership team "for a settlement outside the court through amicable means."
