Agartala: Six forest department employees, including a range officer, sustained injuries after being attacked by suspected timber smugglers in North Tripura. The confrontation occurred on Monday night within the Kanchanpur police station area, leaving two official vehicles heavily damaged.

The incident began around 11 pm when forest staff spotted a vehicle suspected of carrying illegal timber near Chandipur. When the driver failed to stop, the forest team pursued the vehicle until the driver abandoned it and fled. Moments later, a group of approximately 50 people armed with sticks and traditional blades known as daos surrounded the officers.

Sub-Divisional Forest Officer Suman Mitra reported that the staff had to retreat into the nearby dense forest to escape the assault. The injured personnel received medical treatment following the incident. Police have registered a case to investigate the attack, although no suspects have been arrested at this time.
