Sikkim Governor Pushes to Grow NCC Ranks

Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur demanded more National Cadet Corps enrolment in state schools and colleges on Tuesday, July 14. He met with Major General A.P.S. Chahal at Lok Bhavan in Gangtok to discuss the initiative. Mathur believes the program is essential for youth involvement in this strategically vital Himalayan state. Youth service matters here. The governor emphasized that building a strong cadet presence is a top priority.

Major General Chahal, representing the West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, confirmed that plans for an independent NCC Group Headquarters in Sikkim are nearing completion. The state currently relies on a joint administration with West Bengal. This new office will provide a dedicated structure to grow local leadership training and skill development.

The officials reviewed a wide slate of training programs already in motion. Cadets currently study drone operation, cyber security, and innovation. They also participate in sports and adventure activities. Major General Chahal praised the governor for his steady backing, stating, "Major General Chahal thanked the Governor for his continued support for the NCC's youth-focused initiatives and outreach programmes."
