Gangtok: Sikkim officials are banking on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Amendment Bill, 2026, to rescue local shops from stagnant cash flow. The Rajya Sabha cleared the bill on August 3, followed by the Lok Sabha on August 7. State leaders say the legislation is a lifeline for small firms struggling with overdue payments that choke off wages and growth.
The state Department of Commerce and Industries confirmed Wednesday that it is already running outreach programs to teach entrepreneurs how to use the new rules. Officials are pushing business owners to take payment disputes directly to the MSME Facilitation Councils. "The amendments are an important step towards creating a more supportive and business-friendly environment for MSMEs," the department stated.
New digital tools will now bolster the councils to force faster settlements. These changes aim to gut the regulatory red tape that often traps smaller players. The government views these businesses as the backbone of the local economy. They provide jobs and drive innovation across the region. With these updates, the state expects firms to gain the stability they need to expand operations without the constant threat of frozen capital.
