Imphal: A joint task force of Thoubal Commandos and the 46 Assam Rifles nabbed a high-ranking insurgent on September 12. They acted on precise intelligence reports to secure the capture. The suspect is Thoudam Ibungo Meitei, a 46-year-old resident of Heirok Part-III, Litan Thongwangma.

Authorities identified the man as a self-styled 2nd Lieutenant for the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, an armed group operating in the area. Security forces tracked him to the Heirok Chingdompok Loukon fields, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Heirok Police Station. He is the son of the late Thoudam Tomba Meitei.

The military and police now have him in custody. Investigators are currently working to determine his recent movements and his exact role within the outfit. According to security forces, "The arrest was carried out following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of the suspected KYKL cadre in the area." Further probes will clarify his ties to ongoing regional violence.
