Imphal: Revolutionary People’s Front president MM Ngouba marked the 48th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army on September 25. He reaffirmed the group’s demand for an independent Manipur. The PLA was founded in 1978 under N. Bisheshwar Singh. The armed wing continues to operate despite being a proscribed organization. Ngouba dismissed government efforts to end the insurgency.
The RPF leader criticized a supposed 2029 deadline to crush the movement. He claimed that the government uses the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act to maintain military occupation. Ngouba alleged that authorities use arbitrary arrests, torture, and fake encounters to suppress the cause. He stated, "The movement for what the organisation calls the liberation of Manipur had survived repeated attempts by the government and security forces to suppress it."
Ngouba pointed to historical strategies like North East Vision 2022. He argued that the state shifted to a Zero Infiltration operation in 2023. He linked this to current ethnic violence and displacement. The RPF accused security forces of inciting the May 2025 Gwaltabi incident involving the 4th Mahar Regiment and a bus of journalists. He claimed this was psychological warfare designed to pit Meitei and Naga communities against one another.
The message detailed how the government allegedly uses financial incentives and employment to fracture the resistance. Ngouba warned that such tactics threaten the future of the state. He invoked the saying, "Kwak Kwak Kari Kwakno, Mayang Kwakni," to demand vigilance. The RPF concluded by calling for an end to what it termed a proxy war. The group remains committed to the restoration of Manipur's independence.
