Guwahati: A truck packed with 500 sacks of rice crashed today on NH-315 near the Dehing Tea Estate in Margherita. The vehicle, registration AS01GC 7994, originated from a Food Corporation of India depot in Tinsukia. It was bound for Kharsang in Arunachal Pradesh when it veered off the road.
The driver disappeared immediately after the wreck. Locals watched the scene. They claimed unidentified people swiped several sacks of rice from the mangled truck before authorities arrived.
Residents demanded the Margherita Police punish the thieves. Officers reached the site to secure the area and start an investigation. Police have not yet identified the cause of the crash or the current whereabouts of the driver. Authorities noted, "Margherita Police reached the accident site and initiated necessary action." Officials are still gathering facts on the incident.
