Shillong: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Delhi University by Metro on Saturday. He joined students and faculty to mark 100 years of the Shri Ram College of Commerce. It was a long journey back. He last walked these halls as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2013.
Modi chatted with passengers during his ride. Footage of the commute hit social media shortly after. The Prime Minister released a 100 rupee coin to honor the milestone. He previously released a postage stamp in April 2026 after meeting the SRCC Governing Body at his home.
The event drew a massive crowd. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi sat with alumni, staff, and current students. Sir Shri Ram founded the institution in 1926. It remains a top tier hub for economics and business education today.
Modi praised the college for building future leaders. He noted the historic weight of the century-old institution during his speech. Addressing the crowd, he said, "I am the sixth player. Today’s occasion is historic. It is also significant for the country’s education sector. Many generations who have been part of SRCC are connected here."
He also honored the founder. He stated, "I also thank the college’s founder, Sir Shri Ram ji. When a person lives for 100 years, their experiences are considered to be a sea of riches. And when an institution does so, it becomes an ocean of achievements." The visit signals a push to engage Gen-Z on national development.
