Kohima: Village leaders from Tening and Athibung blocks met at Samziuram Village Council Hall on June 30. Pro Rural organized the workshop to harden defenses against natural disasters. They worked alongside the District Disaster Management Authority, Home Guards, and Jalukie fire crews.
Pro Rural director Paul Lokho opened the session. He noted how rural towns face rising risks from climate events. Lokho told the crowd that his group is now an approved partner for emergency relief. He stated, "Pro Rural has become an approved DonateKart-Amazon partner for emergency disaster relief in Northeast India, enabling affected families to receive relief kits within 72 hours during disasters such as floods, landslides, fires and cyclones."
Technical experts pushed for local action. Kedigong of the DDMA urged villages to form their own management authorities to track local hazards. These groups would manage warning systems and lead during chaotic events.
Responders stepped in for the practical training. Home Guards taught crowd members how to stop bleeding and move injured people safely. Jalukie firemen demonstrated fire suppression tactics and evacuation drills. The session ended with an open discussion on how government agencies and local groups can better coordinate when disaster hits.
